PewPew x Teleport CITY

what it is.

PewPew is an art collective with whom I regularly collaborate; their aim is to bring art and spectacle-fueled experiences to nightlife. For Art Basel, PewPew partnered with rideshare startup Teleport, to create an immersive launch experience in Miami’s design district that imagines a city of the future where anything is possible, and brought together interesting people across the media, web3, finance, and art worlds. In my role, I was given complete creative trust and the ability to flex my hybrid artistic skillset in a number of ways. Everything we crafted — from art to wayfinding and props — was made in service of giving guests a feeling of childlike wonder without limits.

As an art director, I designed printed objects (from drink menus to fabricated props for a hidden speakeasy that took attendees deeper into the experience), edited exhibition copy for tombstones to accompany art installations woven throughout the space. As an installation artist, I directed a neon-powered alleyway composed of custom and handcrafted illustrated, LED signage (arranged in homage to Tokyo’s Golden Gai) that welcomed visitors to the venue. And then during the event, I became a performer and took on two different immersive characters - one, the Queen of Art Basel, and the other, an old lady who had lost her way in Teleport City (for which I styled my wardrobe, wrote dialogue, and learned dance choreography for a late-night performance). This was an extremely gratifying experience, and the event was so successful that guests were overheard comparing it to “if Meow Wolf and Sleep No More made a baby.”

Easily the best event I attended at Basel.

Everything was super-sensory and had an impressive attention to detail. It’s mind-blowing.
